While many enjoyed the comfort of a long weekend, members of the Black Tie Guys spent Memorial Day in solemn reflection—learning, serving, and honoring those who paid the ultimate price for America’s freedoms.
The youth mentoring group, sponsored by Tab-N-Action, Inc., dedicated the day to understanding the significance of military sacrifice. Members took part in an educational session exploring America’s wars and military conflicts under each U.S. President. The goal: To understand that freedom has never been free.
Their learning turned into action as they visited Richwood Memorial Gardens to place American flags on the graves of fallen soldiers. For many of the young men, it was a powerful and eye-opening moment.
“I didn’t know we had so many soldiers buried here,” said Syre Jackson, one of the Black Tie Guys. “It makes me have more respect for those who have served in the military.”
The project left a lasting impression on the group. Without it, many members admitted they would have spent the day relaxing or enjoying time off—unaware of the sacrifices that Memorial Day represents.
The Black Tie Guys is a mentoring program for young men, focused on building character, responsibility, and leadership. Their Memorial Day service project reflects a commitment to shaping informed and respectful citizens.
Next week, June 2–4, the group will host its annual “Man Camp” at the Alfred Blakes Cultural Arts Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring workshops on personal discipline, fitness, and leadership development.
