Former Monroe City Councilman Kenneth Wilson announced on a nice sunny day in November 2019 that he would not seek re-election. The announcement was made at an annual Thanksgiving event hosted by his nonprofit, PEEP Inc. Wilson expressed that he wanted to spend more time with his nonprofit. At the event, turkeys and trimmings were provided for a number of attendees.

Positive Enterprise for Empowering the People, or PEEP, was started as a mentoring program for young men and girls were added later. Wilson, who is very popular in our community, is known as a tireless person who takes pride in helping young people in addition to senior citizens. Recently, Wilson started an annual appreciation dinner for the late Elaine Clay, who was very active in the community and a very good friend and supporter of his.

Prior to becoming a city councilman, Wilson was an active supporter of several political candidates who were often successful. In fact, it was a known fact that Wilson was one of the first people to contact if a candidate was running for office. The amazing draw for Wilson is his genuine personality and commitment to wanting to make a difference in the lives of others. Wilson has been long-term employed by Atmos Energy Corporation here in Monroe, but looks forward to someday spending full-time helping others. Kenneth Wilson is not in a class by himself, but it does not take long to call the roll. Keep up the good work, Mr. Wilson, so we can continue to Love where we Live and Live where we Love.
