AT&T 5G network now serves Richwood

AT&T representatives were in Monroe last week for two major announcements that combined technology investment with community support. The communications giant unveiled upgrades to its 5G wireless network serving Monroe and neighboring Richwood and presented a $20,000 contribution to the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum to advance digital literacy for local students.

During a morning presentation, AT&T officials detailed the company’s latest infrastructure improvements, including the addition of a new 5G cell site along U.S. Highway 165. The upgrade is expected to significantly boost wireless speed and coverage in South Monroe and the town of Richwood, benefiting residents, businesses, and first responders.

“Expanding reliable connectivity across Louisiana is essential to strengthening our communities and our economy,” said State Senator Katrina Jackson-Andrews, who joined AT&T leaders for the event. “Every new site like this one helps ensure that families, businesses, and first responders have the tools they need to stay connected in today’s digital world.”

According to AT&T, the company invested more than $2.2 billion in Louisiana’s wireless and wireline networks between 2020 and 2024. The ongoing expansion includes support for FirstNet®, the nation’s dedicated network for public safety communications.

AT&T held a separate presentation at the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum, where officials announced a $20,000 contribution to support digital literacy training for elementary students. The program will help young learners develop the skills needed to navigate technology safely and effectively.

“Helping our youngest students build digital skills opens doors to a lifetime of opportunity,” said State Senator Jay Morris. “Partnerships like this give children the confidence and tools they’ll need to learn, create, and compete in the years ahead.”
