The primary elections for the congressional, state and local have concluded. There are runoffs forthcoming and all 5 state constitutional amendments were defeated. The most devastating blow were the 2 local tax RENEWAL propositions that were narrowly defeated. Excuses have rang out throughout the city and finger pointing has persisted. The bottom line is where do we go from here? After all, something will be placed back on the ballot the later part of the year and if it is not part of the general elections in November, the price tag will have to be absorbed by the local community.
The most amazing outcome of the defeat of the local 2 propositions RENEWAL is that our children are suffering because adults are mad with each other because of trivial agendas…that’s right, grown ups actually decided to campaign against the RENEWALS because of issues they have with one another. 59 years of successful RENEWALS came to a halt on May 16th while their children were asleep in bed.
As we move forward, it will be interesting to see if the community will step up and unify to recover the lost $9 million. Our teachers, students and support staff depend on it. When that happens, we can Love where we Live and Live where we Love!
