Completing a 5k race is more than crossing a finish line. It is a statement that says, ” I am investing in myself.” This month, I completed a 5k race and earned a medal. As I stood there after the race, tired but smiling, I realized something important: Health is wealth.
Many people think wealth is measured only by money, cars, houses, or material things. But what good is success if your body is too weak to enjoy it? Your health is one of the greatest gifts God has given you. When you take care of your body, you are investing in your future.
Preparing for this race was not easy. It required discipline, consistency, and determination. There were days I did not feel like walking or running, but I kept going. Every step mattered. Every mile mattered. Every drop of sweat mattered.
Now I am training for the Louisiana Watermelon Festival 5k in Farmerville in July. I have been walking and running through the neighborhood, pushing myself a little farther each day. I am also drinking more water and eating more fruits and vegetables. Small changes can lead to big results. You do not have to become a professional athlete overnight.
What I have learned is that exercise is not only about losing weight or getting in shape. It is also about peace of mind, confidence, and mental strength. Walking gives you time to think. Running teaches endurance. Discipline in your health can spill over into every area of your life.
The medal I received represents more than finishing a race. It represents commitment. It represents growth. It represents refusing to quit.
People are reading this column right now who need encouragement to begin their own health journey. Start where you are. Walk around the block. Drink more water. Eat healthier meals. Get moving. Your future self will thank you for it.
We spend so much time chasing wealth that we sometimes neglect the very body carrying us through life. Health is wealth. A healthy body gives you the strength to work, energy to dream, and the ability to enjoy the blessings life has to offer.
Take care of yourself. Your life depends on it.
