The recent shooting in downtown Monroe that claimed a life and left others injured has once again left our community grieving, frustrated, and searching for answers. While we mourn for the victims and pray for their families, we must also confront a difficult reality: violent crime continues to threaten the safety and quality of life that every citizen deserves.
For far too long, residents have watched a familiar pattern unfold. Violence erupts; emergency responders rush to the scene, public officials hold press conferences, and promises are made. Yet many citizens are asking whether enough is being done to prevent these tragedies from occurring in the first place.
Monroe is a city filled with hardworking people who want the same things: safe neighborhoods, thriving businesses, quality schools, and opportunities for their children. They want to attend community events, visit downtown restaurants, and support local businesses without worrying about becoming victims of violence.
The people of Monroe are tired of hearing about crime. They want to see progress. They want to know that leaders are working together on a comprehensive strategy that produces measurable results and makes our streets safer. When this happens, we can continue to Love where we Live and Live where we Love.
