Ambulance data breach effects millions, council renews contract

The Monroe City Council unanimously approved a two-year extension of its contract with Acadian Ambulance Service, Inc., despite growing concerns over a recent major cybersecurity breach.

The decision, made during Tuesday’s council meeting, came without direct representation from Acadian Ambulance and amidst revelations about the extent of the data compromise.

The info about Acadian’s data breach was brought to the attention of the council on Tuesday by District 5 council member Minister Verbon Muhammad who voiced apprehensions about approving the extension without addressing the recent data breach.

The cyber attack, orchestrated by the notorious Daixin Team, occurred just days before the Ouachita Council of Governments (OCOG) approved the agreement on June 24, 2024, a fact that was not disclosed to OCOG at the time.

Based on OCOG’s approval, the city council felt comfortable approving the extension.
