Alfonso Brown died June 17, 2019, while handcuffed in police custody at Dillard’s in the Pecanland Mall parking lot in Monroe, Louisiana. The Monroe Police Department officer worked as an off-duty officer while he arrested Alfonso Brown for an alleged shoplifting. According to the reports, the officer fired his taser eight times in less than two minutes. Alfonso Brown suffered a medical emergency. Brown died at the age of 36, handcuffed. We recently learned that the District Attorney’s office presented the case to a grand jury, and the grand jury returned a no true bill on October 17, 2019. However, the circumstances surrounding Brown’s death are still quite a bit unclear.
Over the last year protests for the death of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks, Breonna Taylor, and Daniel Prude have reminded us of Alfonso Brown. Each day we think about what really happened to Alfonso. It is our goal to continue to find the answers and to obtain justice.
