Audit report says school funds being mismanaged

A scathing audit report of the Monroe City School Board for fiscal year 2023 has uncovered extensive financial irregularities and mismanagement across multiple schools, raising serious questions about the district’s oversight and internal controls.

Neville High School Fundraiser Scandal: At Neville High School, auditors discovered a troubling misuse of funds related to a silent auction fundraiser. Approximately $10,014 worth of items purchased for the auction were improperly donated to an outside non-profit organization, effectively funneling public school funds to a private entity. One check had to be voided as it was for the purchase of alcohol, which is strictly prohibited for school events.
