Bill to require financial literacy in schools on quick path to passage

A bill requiring all Louisiana high school graduates to be financially literate has passed the state legislature and will soon become law.

  The bill is HB103, sponsored by Representative Nicholas Muscarello, and co-sponsored by over 100 legislators, including Senator Katrina Jackson, Rep. Pat Moore, and Rep. Adrian Fisher.

  The new law, when signed by the governor, will require all high school students to pass a one-unit course in basic financial literacy in order to graduate.

  The BESE board is being charged with writing up the specifics that will take effect in the 2026-27 school year.
