Monroe City Schools is out of $325,000 in payments to the former superintendent as part of a contract that was never approved by the school board.
That was the jaw-dropping revelation Tuesday night as the board received a report from a workplace investigator it hired to find out what led to the alleged misconduct accusations against and abrupt retirement of former superintendent Brent Vidrine.
Concerns were first raised by former Board members Vicki Krutzer and Nerissa Bryant in 2021-22 after they reviewed audit reports and noticed a nearly $300,000 discrepancy in the superintendent’s retirement payments compared to the previous year.
The duo raised the issue at committee and board meetings but were ignored. They persistently requested documents and copies of checks and reports and meticulously read them all.
