Juneteenth officially kicked off last week as the Metropolitan Black Chamber hosted three days of events in Monroe.
The Black Chamber hosted an all-white party on Friday, June 2nd, followed by a mini-parade and River Walk activity the next day and a musical on Sunday.
Last week’s activities served as a warm-up for Juneteenth Holiday activities, which are expected to be in high gear as the Juneteenth Holiday gets closer.
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, celebrates the day the last persons held in slavery were freed on June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Texas.
