Coach Shelon Ray Spivey, Jr., was born on December 27, 2024 to Catherine Varner-Spivey and the late Shelton Ray Spivey, Sr. He departed this life on March 7, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Shelton was reared and educated in the Ouachita and Monroe City School Systems. He was a 1996 honor graduate of Neville High School and a member of the 1996 NHS State Championship Football Team. Shelton attended Tuskegee University and the University of LA at Monroe. He was employed with the Monroe City Schools for 21 years, having served 16 years at Neville (Lee) Jr. High School where he enjoyed coaching and working with special needs students. His love for his students was evident through his willingness to assist wherever and whenever needed. He tutored mathematics to any student who needed help.
Shelton united with the New Daughters of Zion Baptist Church at an early age, where he was currently serving as a deacon.
Believing that he could make a difference in the lives of boys, training them to become outstanding young men, he gave freely of his time and started his first AAU Basketball team, The Monroe Tigers in 2006. In 2011 The Monroe Tigers won the National Championship in Las Vegas, NV. That team later became the LA. Roadrunners winning numerous trophies and awards over the years.
Shelton will be sorely missed by his family, friends, students, and the numerous lives he touched.
