Church to give-away free gas cards, prayers in Sunday event

The price of gasoline is rising across the nation, along with prices for goods and services, but one local church has decided to help by giving away gasoline..FREE!

Pastor James Garland Smith, the pastor of the Lone Wa Worship Center, 3027 Breard Street, says the Lord told him to offer prayers of hope to those frustrated about the high cost of gasoline and other living costs.

Pastor Smith says he recognizes that many people won’t come to a church, even for a moment of prayer; but God told him to offer $25 gift cards to anyone who drives a vehicle through his church parking lot this Sunday morning.

He said the church, with the help of several business sponsors, will be providing hundreds of gift cards to those who want to receive them.

“We will pray for the passengers in each car,” said Pastor Smith. He said the driver will then be given a gift card. There is no requirement that recipients be members of his congregation or attend a worship service.

“They don’t have get out of their cars,” said Pastor Smith. He said the church wants to do its part to let everyone know that God cares.

It’s unusual and expected to draw hundreds, but Smith said his congregation plans to offer blessings for as many people as possible.

Pastor Smith says it may sound too good to be true, but in this case, it will happen, just as God directed him.

He said he cannot guarantee that everyone in line will get a gift card. He said although he will have hundreds of gift cards, they will run out at some point.

He encourages everyone that desires to participate to line up early for the area’s first-ever “drive-by gas card blessing.”

The giveaway will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
