Teachers and support staff of the Monroe City Schools will get an extra check in a few days, but some board members think support staff deserve more.
In a contentious meeting Tuesday night, board members approved special incentive checks for city school teachers that reward them for some of the hardships they endured during the COIVD-19 Pandemic.
The board voted 6-1 to provide $1,500 checks for teachers and $750 for support staff. Board member Betty Cooper voted against the item because the board did not carry the incentive package to the finance committee. At least three Southside board members wanted to find a way to ensure that support staff and teachers received the same pay.
