The Monroe Civil Service Board voted unanimously to allow Corporal Reginald “Reggie” Brown to take the Chief of Police Examination for the City of Monroe. The board previously excluded Brown from taking the exam on the basis that he did not meet the qualifications to apply. However, Tuesday Brown told the board that he meets and even exceeds the qualifications to take the exam. Brown’s Attorneys cited several applicants who were allowed to take the exam who had no supervisory experience, or the necessary college training. They said whatever latitude was given to the other applicants should be afforded Brown. The special called meeting of the board came after Brown filed suit challenging his exclusion.
