The city council voted to introduce a schedule of bus fares that will increase cost for bus riders by 50 percent, but reduce services at the same time; two Southside Councilmen voted against the plan.
The mayor introduced the plan from the Transit Department that had been discussed earlier to help save about $300,000 of a projected $4 million deficit.
The mayor said at a recent public hearing bus riders said they would be willing to double the fees rather than lose their bus service which many depend upon for transportation.
Instead of doubling the fee the mayor raised all fees across the board by 50 percent and significantly reduced services at the same time.
