Cooper pledges $1 million annually to anti-crime initiative

Mayoral candidate Betty Ward Cooper announced on her website Wednesday that when elected, she will ask the city council to revise its budget to target funds toward reducing crime in high-crime areas.

Cooper said one of her first acts will be to push the city council to budget a minimum of $1 million annually toward activating community groups, churches, and non-profits to form a collaborative effort to mentor youth and young adults, reduce recidivism, and establish mobile mental units to ensure access to needed medications and reduce crime in high-crime areas.
