The Monroe City council voted to support a request from the Southside Economic Development Committee to fund a portion of the “Southside Dream” and has resolved to ask Mayor Ellis to reconsider his objection.
Tuesday night, after considerable debate and parliamentary maneuvering, the council voted 3-1 to approve a resolution recording its support for the SEDD plan and urging the mayor to reconsider his consistent objection and then talk with each council member.
The council chamber was standing room only as Southside residents, the African-American state legislative delegation, and civic leaders assembled to show support for what has been described as the “Southside Dream.”
