Council names Jones, Wright to SEDD Board

The Monroe City Council named the last two members of the Southside Economic Development District Tuesday night, completing the district’s seven-member board.

The city in 3-2 votes named two local Black business owners to serve as commissioners of the SEDD board of Commissioners.

Appointed this is week are Otis Jones, owner of Sunshine Supply, and Roosevelt Wright, Jr. owner of the Monroe Free Press to serve a three-year term on the SEDD Board.

Jones was recommended by Councilwoman Juanita Woods and approved on a 3-2 vote, with council members Kema Dawson and Carday Marshall voting against the recommendation.
