Deborah Smith can legally run for the District 4 seat on the Monroe City School Board.
District Attorney Steve Tew said Deborah Smith can run for the seat although she is not a resident of the newly redrawn district because the complaint filed to legally challenge her candidacy was not filed within the seven day period prescribed by law.
Smith has lived in what she believed to be District 4 for over 30 years. Without her knowledge, her Owl Street address was shifted into District 5, which would normally make her illegible to run.
