Dawson ejects woman from council meeting over liquor permits

A woman who spoke against approving a liquor permit for a Southside business was ejected from Tuesday’s city council meeting, but not before she left yelling, “just say no!”

South Monroe residents have repeatedly appeared before the city council to ask for a halt to new liquor permits in South Monroe. Each time a new license application comes before the council, individuals or groups plead with the council to take action to block the increase.

In response, the Mayo administration placed a one-year moratorium on new licenses, but after it expired, it was not renewed, and the complaints have continued.
