Dawson recall petition grows to over 500 signatures

The Recall petition against city council chairperson Kema Dawson-Robinson continues as volunteers knock on doors to gather signatures from disgruntled voters.

Recall leaders reported Tuesday that over 525 signatures have been gathered in the first three weeks of the recall drive.

About 1900 signatures will be needed to force a recall election in Dawson-Robinson’s District 5. The committee has six months to gather the required signatures.

Dawson-Robinson won election in 2020 with 962 votes of the 1,837 votes cast.

Recall elections are generally fueled by anger or consistent disappointment of the constituency. Anger over a particular action usually subsides, and most recall efforts fizzle. However, if there is consistent disappointment, recalls are fueled.
