D.J. Fortenberry, top aide to Mayor Friday Ellis, has become the second city official to be busted for DWI. All eyes are on the Fortenberry arrest because the man who must decide whether to prosecute him is himself a multiple DWI offender, saved by connections to power.
It all began in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 10, 2023. Fortenberry was booked into the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center at 2:39 a.m. on the serious charge of driving while intoxicated. Sources report that Fortenberry had spent an evening at Enoch’s Cafe with friends and had a few drinks. He offered a ride to a friend who had left her car at the Civic Center.
One Too Many
Fortenberry left Enoch’s accompanied by a male friend, to give the lady a ride to her car. His offer was an act of courtesy, but Fortenberry himself had apparently one drink too many.
