Downtown club security guards arrested for punching, clubbing unruly patron

A violent altercation at a downtown Monroe club led to the arrest of two security guards on charges of battery early Sunday morning. At 1:41 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024. Monroe Police Department’s Pfc N. Shepherd, who was on detail at a downtown Desiard Street club, witnessed a confrontation between the two club security guards, one male and one female, and a female club patron.

The confrontation began when Russell E. Brown Sr., a security guard at the club, was seen engaging in a physical fight with a female patron. During the altercation, Brown allegedly used a taser on the woman’s buttocks in an attempt to remove her from the premises. The situation quickly escalated when the woman retaliated by punching Brown with a closed fist, prompting him to use the taser baton as a blunt, which he swung and hit her in the head.
