Dr. Walton named interim President of Grambling State University.

In a significant development at Grambling State University, the University of Louisiana System’s Executive Committee named Dr. Connie Walton as the interim president on Thursday, January 4, 2024. Dr. Walton, who has been serving as the institution’s provost and vice president for academic affairs, steps into her new role with nearly eight years of experience at Grambling.

Speaking on her appointment, Dr. Walton shared her deep connection with the university, “My life is a testimony to the impact that this university can have on a student’s life. I knew as an undergraduate student at Grambling State University that I wanted to come back and be a part of the faculty. This appointment provides an additional way to serve this great institution and help shape the lives of students. When the next president of Grambling State University is identified, I look forward to supporting that person’s strategic goals.”

Dr. Walton’s appointment comes as a testament to her long-standing commitment and contributions to the university. She has been instrumental in advancing key programs at Grambling, notably in cybersecurity and nursing, both of which have seen significant growth and success under her leadership.

The former president of Grambling State University, Rick Gallot, expressed his full confidence in Dr. Walton’s capabilities. “I am supremely confident that Grambling will be well cared for under Dr. Walton’s interim leadership,” he stated.

“She has proven her dedication to the institution and its success through her commitment to advancing cybersecurity and nursing programs, both of which are now soaring, and I know she will bring that same determination to the interim presidency,” he said.

Officials have confirmed that Dr. Walton’s appointment as interim president is subject to ratification by the full Board of Supervisors at its meeting in February. The interim decision reflects the Board’s trust in her leadership qualities and her vision for the university’s future.
