Michelli Martin is the new director of communications for the City of Monroe.
Martin’s appointment was announced Tuesday by Mayor Oliver Ellis. She is the first black appointment in his four-month-old administration.
Martin will replace former communications director Rod Washington who became a city hall icon during the two decades of the James Mayo administration.
She is a former evening news anchor, reporter and producer for KTVE Channel 10 in Monroe andKTBS Channel 3 for the past nine years.
“In an era of increasing interest in information, technology and communication, we view Michelli’s role as a critical component of our leadership team,” said Mayor Ellis.
Martin, holds a Master’s degree in Communication from the University of Louisiana-Monroe and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Louisiana Tech University.
