Ellis nominates Overturf for next city fire chief

Mayor Friday Ellis has nominated Captain Daniel Overturf to serve as the next fire chief for the City of Monroe, despite Overturf ranking 10th among 17 applicants for the position.

The nomination requires city council confirmation, which is not guaranteed given the council’s recent rejection of Ellis’ appointment for the community affairs department head position.

Overturf, 48, currently serves as a captain supervising Rescue 2 crew operations and training.
