Family, friends remember life of “Big Dawg” Moore, 74

Danny Ray Moore, affectionately known as “Big Dawg,” passed away on July 24, 2024, at the age of 74.

Moore, a long-time truck driver and cherished family man, died peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Born on November 11, 1949, in Monroe, Louisiana, to Maggie Moore and Jessie Thomas, Moore was a graduate of Richardson High School’s class of 1968. He built a 40-year career as a truck driver for Sol Pipe and Steel, where his colleagues fondly dubbed him “Big Dawg.”

Moore’s funeral service was held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church, where friends, family, and community members gathered to celebrate his life and legacy.

Known for his loving spirit and dedication to his family, Moore is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joanna Davis Moore, and their five children: Peter Davis of Dallas, TX, and Elizabeth Walker, Angela Davis, Angele Davis, and Karen Davis, all of Monroe, LA. He also leaves behind numerous siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members.

Colleagues and friends remember Moore for his commitment to his work and his enjoyment of social gatherings, where he would often discuss sports and share stories from his trucking days. His passing marks the end of an era for many in the Monroe trucking community.

Moore’s life was characterized by his strong faith, having accepted Christ at an early age, and his unwavering dedication to his family and work. His legacy as a hardworking professional, loving family man, and cherished community member will continue to inspire those who knew him.
