Fate of local Head Start program to be decided next week

The fate of the Head Start program in Ouachita Parish is hanging by a thread as the government decides whether to renew the local contract.

  Head Start is operated by Prime Time Family Reading, Inc, based in New Orleans. It operates on an annual budget of $5,326,393.

  The face of Prime is local educator Rev. Stalanda Butcher, who oversees the operation. She referred all questions to Prime Time’s marketing department.

  Prime Time officials told the Free Press that the company’s five year contract expired and has not been renewed as yet. The deadline for making a decision concerning the program’s future was June 30 but has been extended twice. The final deadline…
