Fans and alumni have virtually abandoned Coach Druzon Quillen in his lonely fight against career-ending charges brought against him by the Franklin Parish Sheriff Kevin Cobb. The appeals court in a decision that has stirred controversy and debate within the local community, former Carroll High School coach Druzon Quillen may soon return to jail to serve the remainder of a 45-day sentence for battery against a police officer.
The case, which has captured public attention since its inception in October 2022, involved a heated altercation between Sheriff Kevin Cobb, Quillen, and Franklin Parish fans at a football game between Carroll High School and Franklin Parish High School.
The Incident
The incident began when Quillen and other Carroll coaches, engaged in what has been described as typical “coach trash talk” from the press box, became the target of frustration from Franklin Parish fans upset over their team’s losing performance. According to court testimony, this anger escalated to a physical confrontation initiated by Sheriff Kevin Cobbs, who was off-duty and in plain clothes at the time, and several Franklin Parish fans.
