Four community activists were recognized with honors by the Ouachita N.A.A.C.P. at its annual banquet Saturday night.
The NAACP annual Freedom Fund Banquet was held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the Mt. Zion Community Center.
The event celebrated the outstanding contributions of four local residents who have made a significant impact on their community. The banquet, attended by approximately 350 people, brought together influential members of the Black community, including sitting judges, the U.S. District Attorney for the Western District, school board representatives, and city council members.
The guest speaker for the evening was Shaw Wilson, former director of Transportation for the State of Louisiana. Wilson delivered a powerful speech highlighting the importance of community activism and the ongoing struggle for equality.
