This Saturday, the Monroe community will say farewell to a woman who was a voice for the disenfranchised for over 20 years.
Funeral services for Gloria Walker, 70, will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the Liberty Christian Center. The service will be held at 11 a.m. under the auspices of Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Walker was a regular presence at Monroe City Council and Monroe City School Board meetings for over 20 years. She commented on nearly every agenda item that would adversely affect the poor, including bus fees, water and sewer charges, and any other actions she thought would impact the quality of life of the poor.
