Lawrence Davis, a cherished member of the community known for his vibrant spirit and dedication to service, passed away Sunday morning at St. Francis Hospital. He was 74 years old.
Mr. Davis, a graduate of Carroll High School, left an indelible mark on his alma mater as a member of the school football team under coaches Dorth Blade and Dixon. His passion for performance extended beyond the field, as he was also an active participant in the school’s drama club.
A devoted man of faith, Lawrence was a longstanding member of the New Tabernacle Baptist Church. There, he contributed his time and talents to the Male Chorus, Brotherhood Ministry, and Bible ministry.
Many in the community will remember Lawrence for his memorable performances in the annual Black Heritage Dramas at the Monroe Civic Center. His powerful, bellowing voice and hearty laugh never failed to delight audiences.
Friends and family recall Lawrence’s volunteer spirit, particularly his commitment to helping those less fortunate and those in need of his “fixit man” skills. He lent his services to help others with carpentry, automotive, and even plumbing problems, often free of charge. His generosity and compassion touched many lives throughout the years.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Debra Davis, as well as his children and family members.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service that will be deeply mourned by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
The memorial service for Mr. Davis will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Miller Funeral Home Chapel.
