Funeral services slated for Black community legend, Dr. Deacue Fields, Jr.

The Reverend Dr. Deacue Fields, Jr., a giant in the African-American fight for equity in the state for decades, died last week. He was 81 years old.

Dr. Fields was the former pastor of Ludden Chapel Baptist Church in Monroe and the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Winnsboro.

He was a key player in decision-making that charted the course of the Black community across the state as a part of a large circle of Black leaders who played key roles in changing laws to help minorities and the poor.
