Margie Jenkins was among thousands who endured hardships in 1956 to secure votings rights in Ouachita Parish

  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 27, at 11 a.m. for Margie Jenkins, the matriarch of the well-known and respected Jenkins-Turner family.

Services for Margie Jenkins, 90 will be held at the Greater Antioch Baptist Church.

Mrs. Jenkins was one of the few living black citizens to be purged from the voter rolls in 1956. She later played herself in a Black History play at the Civic Center entitled “The Purge.” She was one of over 5,000 blacks to be purged and…
