Gangland shooting on Standifer Streets leaves one dead, one injured

A man is dead and police are sorting out rumors trying to see why he was shot more than a dozen times Monday night.

The Monroe Police Department is currently investigating the shooting death of 38-year-old Marvin Lewis of Monroe in a gangland-style shooting in the Dick Taylor and Standifer Street area.

Information dries up when gang-related shootings occur, what is coming forth is that Lewis’ murder may be in retaliation for another murder that happened in the area last year in which Lewis may have been a direct or indirect party.

Lewis was killed in the shooting and another person was injured after what witnesses say may have been more than 20 shots fired.

The double shooting happened in the 400 block of Standifer Avenue just before 7:30 PM on Monday, February 22, 2021.

MPD detectives are currently investigating the case and are following up on leads.
