LEAP results show gap between white and Blacks academics is widening

Despite having one of the highest-paid superintendents in the state, the Monroe City Schools is still struggling to educate African-American students when compared to whites and other races.

The performance gap is getting wider, while blacks have shown some improvements moving from unsatisfactory levels to basic. Very few blacks have moved into the Mastery or advanced levels, according to State Department of Education Data.

This week Louisiana Education Department released 2023 state assessment results which measure educational gains in the core subjects.

The results of statewide testing of schools across the state showed a wide disparity between the performance of white and black students who attend Monroe City Schools.
