A man known as one of the most outstanding drum majors in the history of the Carroll High School Marching band has died.
Funeral services for Val Purnell, 79, were slated for Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the Smith Funeral Home.
Purnell was drum major for the Carroll High School between 1959 and his graduation in 1963.
Purnell was a contemporary of legendary Carroll drum majors: Abe Brown, L.D. Decatur, and Joe Jay Taylor, all known for their high-step marching and baton-twirling skills.
