Services for a lifelong member of the Omega Psi Fraternity and well-known personality, Robert “Chrome” Goldsmith were held recently.
Mr. Goldsmith, affectionately known as “CHROME,” was memorialized in services to be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Mount Olivet Baptist Church
Robert Earl Goldsmith was born on April 29, 1941, in Monroe, Louisiana, to the late Frank and Bennie Goldsmith. He departed from this life on December 30, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of faith, dedication, service, and brotherhood. Robert was a beloved member of the Monroe community, having been preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James and Sammie Goldsmith.
His educational journey began at Booker T. Elementary School and culminated with his graduation from Carroll High School in 1959. Following his passion for music, he attended Grambling State University, where he was an active member of the university band. Robert’s commitment to brotherhood was exemplified through his lifelong membership in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., embodying the principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift.
Robert’s professional life was marked by his dedication to education. He held esteemed teaching positions within the Monroe City and Morehouse Parish school systems, impacting the lives of numerous students. His spiritual journey, nurtured from a young age, saw him accept Christ and be baptized at Martin Temple C. M. E. Church. In his later years, he found spiritual guidance and comfort under Pastor Jessie Faye Manuel.
Robert leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years, Wilma Fletcher Goldsmith; his siblings, Frankie, Lena, Isaac, and Bobby; his children, Roderick Thomas (California), Roderick Goldsmith (Monroe, Louisiana), and Anthony Goldsmith (Danielle, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma); his daughters, Jackie Thomas (California) and the late Renea Thomas; seven grandchildren; and a host of family members, friends, former students, fraternity brothers, and colleagues who will cherish his memory.
