Lyons, Brown arrested in Hibbett Sports shooting

Authorities have announced the arrest of two additional suspects in connection with the violent incidents that occurred at Pecanland Mall and Hibbett Sports earlier this month.

Philick L. Lyons Jr., 22, and Derrick D. Brown Jr., 24, were taken into custody following an investigation into the February 8 altercation that culminated in a shooting at the sporting goods store on Louisville Avenue, according to the Monroe Police Department.

The arrests come as part of an ongoing investigation into what authorities describe as gang-related violence that began at Pecanland Mall and later continued at Hibbett Sports, where two individuals were shot.

According to police reports, the initial confrontation erupted in the mall’s food court around 10:40 AM between rival gang members. Witnesses reported that mall patrons were afraid to leave until the suspects moved their altercation to the parking lot. Investigators have identified Lyons and Brown as members of the “West Side Babies” gang who participated in this initial confrontation.
