Marshals escort women to cars after post-council meeting clash, “yap, yap”

Monroe City Marshals reportedly averted a physical altercation after Tuesday night’s council meeting after a city employee confronted a woman for being disrespectful.

  According to Robert Cherry, Monroe City Marshal, there was a near confrontation after the meeting when Kinya Dawson confronted another woman named Vevlyn Wright and accused her of being disrespectful to her sister Kema Dawson, president of the Monroe City Council.

  Kinya Dawson was the secretary to former Mayor James Mayo but has been working as a secretary in the engineering department after the election of Mayor Oliver Ellis in 2020.

  Cherry said the two women did not touch, but Dawson rushed toward Wright “with a bunch of yap, yap.”
