RAYVILLE, LA – On August 10, 2024, family, friends, and community members gathered at the Greater Free Gift Baptist Church to pay their final respects to Travis Gray, a long-time resident of Rayville, who passed away on August 4, 2024, at the age of 68.
Born on September 14, 1955, in Rayville, Louisiana, to GL and Mattie Gray, Travis was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft. A graduate of Holly Ridge High School, he spent fifteen years as a construction foreman before establishing himself as a master mechanic, a skill he honed throughout his life. In recent years, he served as a transportation driver for Parkview Church of Christ, further demonstrating his commitment to community service.
Travis’s life took a joyful turn when he met his loving wife, Vera Thomas Gray, in October 1980. Their union blossomed into a large and loving family, which Travis cherished deeply. Known for his love of fishing, playing dominoes, and spending quality time with his loved ones, Travis’s presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Vera, and their children: Travis S. Gray, Sr., Franchester Griffin, Tamekia Lewis, Alfredo Lewis, Veronica Lewis, LaDeanna Davis, Malaysia Davis, and Shaquirea Lewis. Travis also leaves behind a large extended family, including eight siblings and numerous other relatives and friends.
Travis was preceded in death by his parents, GL and Mattie Gray, and his brother, Jimmy Gray.
The funeral service, entrusted to McFarland Funeral Companies, provided an opportunity for the community to celebrate Travis’s life and the impact he had on those around him.
