Monroe still ranked among nation’s most dangerous cities by FBI

Monroe has changed its logo, rebuilding its downtown and working to clean up its image, but it has failed miserably at changing its image as one of the most dangerous cities of its size in the United States.

  Monroe’s ranking nationally has improved, not because it is reducing violent crimes, but because other cities have increased crime rates.

  Recent FBI crime statistics in the FBI’s 2020 Uniform Crime Report, show Monroe as #16 in the list of the 50 most dangerous cities, down from #5, four years ago.

  That’s the news that the city promotes, that the number of murders and violent crime incidents is “trending downward,” but the sheer numbers don’t reflect the trend.
