Family and friends gathered at the Monroe Civic Center on Saturday, May 20, 2023, to celebrate the 90th birthday of Mrs. Dorothy Fobbs.
For weeks the family members planned and calculated how to surprise the soon-to-be nonagenarian. How do you surprise someone who has seen more life than most people hardly ever dream about? It wasn’t easy, so many of them chose not to talk with her in the days leading up to the surprise event. Until she began to see many of her family members enter the Civic Center all dressed in white, “Miss Dorothy” thought she was heading to a mother-daughter tea.
