Mt. Olivet to open third new edifice in 30 years in Sunday evening worship

One of Monroe’s most historic and beloved sanctuaries will once again open its doors, marking a triumphant chapter in the life of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and its unwavering congregation.

The grand reopening ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 2:30 p.m., is a celebration of faith, persistence, and the steadfast leadership of the Reverend Oliver Billups, Jr.

Rev. Billups, who first oversaw the construction of the church’s edifice in 1984 at the age of 31, now leads the congregation into a new era at the age of 71. This remarkable achievement follows a series of challenges that would have tested even the most resilient hearts.
