Muhammad says council members last to know about murders

Monroe City Council member Verbon Muhammad voiced strong concerns Tuesday about the lack of communication between law enforcement and elected officials following serious crimes in their districts, announcing plans to introduce an ordinance addressing the issue.

During Tuesday’s council meeting, Minister Muhammad highlighted a disturbing pattern where he says council members learn about murders and other serious crimes in their districts from concerned residents rather than law enforcement officials.

“I have to get it from the community and verify it with the police department.
