The Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) is on the verge of finding a new home in Richwood, promising to bring educational and economic rejuvenation to the area.
OIC, a non-profit organization dedicated to workplace training, has been in search of a new location to expand its programs, including a new culinary training component not previously offered.
The OIC Board, having sought a suitable site for years with capital outlay commitments from the State of Louisiana, recently set its sights on the old Richwood High School facility. This historic site, located at the heart of Richwood, could soon become the center of OIC’s operations, thanks to a $1.8 million grant aimed at renovating and revitalizing the premises.
In December, OIC Board President Jamie Mayo and OIC Director William Smith appeared before the Monroe City School Board to make a pitch to buy the old Martin Luther King School Building on Nutland Rd. They said the facility had everything needed to house OIC’s training program and some.
