Our City, Our Community

By Marie Brown

With dangerously hot temperatures affecting much of the country and high heat and humidity we are experiencing here in Monroe, Louisiana, we encourage everyone to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families. Forecast heat index values is exceeding 95 degrees fahrenheit during the hottest part of the day increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Please remember these important safety tips:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty.
  • Avoid prolonged outdoor activities between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm when temperatures are at the highest
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and use sunscreen when outdoors.
  • Take frequent breaks in air conditioned or shaded areas.
  • Never leave children, older adults, or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.
  • Check on elderly neighbors, relatives, and those with medical conditions to ensure they are safe and staying cool.

Together, we can keep our community neighbors safe. Stay hydrated, stay informed, and stay cool. Because of this cooperation, we can continue to Love where we live and Live where we Love.
