Pashen Sims brings “OZ” to Rayville Arts Center

The Rayville Arts Center will bring the magic of Broadway to Northeast Louisiana with its upcoming stage production of The Wizard of Oz on October 20, 2024. Directed by Pashen Sims, a seasoned director from Monroe, the production promises a spectacular one-time performance filled with music, dance, and beloved characters.

Sims, who has made a name for herself in the Monroe area, began her directing career ten years ago with a production for the Newlight Economic Development Program, sponsored by Newlight Baptist Church. “After the production ended, I liked it so much I continued,” Sims shared. Since then, she has directed several Broadway classics, including A Raisin in the Sun, Memphis, Fences, and The Wiz.

Joining Sims in this production are several local talents, including music director Farris Elmore. The choreography team consists of Sahara Campbell, Roshanda Spears, Jordan Hubbard, and Crystal Rogers-Esters, who will bring dynamic movement to the stage.

This rendition of The Wizard of Oz will stay true to the original classic motion picture, featuring iconic songs like Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Follow the Yellow Brick Road. Sims’ productions are known for offering local audiences a Broadway-quality experience, a rare treat for the region.

General admission tickets for the performance are $25 in advance and $35 at the door. VIP tickets, which offer an enhanced experience, are available for $45. Tickets can be purchased online at www.theartswithpassion.com.

The production is made possible by funding from the Louisiana Division of the Arts and the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council.
